Boeing Technician Forecast

Boeing’s Aircraft Technician Forecast Summary provides a good overview of coming changes.  Paraphrasing from Boeing’s report:

Global fleet growth will continue to drive strong demand for technicians to repair and maintain aircraft. As technologies continue to evolve, newer generation airplanes will help to somewhat moderate demand.  Leveraging these newer technologies will enable longer intervals between maintenance checks, fewer non-routine tasks, and improved airplane reliability.

As airlines continue to take delivery of new aircraft, advances in new airplane technologies will drive an increased need for technicians.  Skills in avionics, composites, and digital troubleshooting are driving technician demand.

Looking at demand on a regional basis, the need for maintenance personnel is largest in the Asia Pacific region.  Driven by a rapidly emerging middle class, Asia Pacific will require 256,000 new technicians. Although increasing in demand, airlines in North America will require fewer technicians, forecast at 118,000.  Other regional needs include Europe at 111,000, the Middle East at 66,000, Latin America at 49,000, CIS / Russia at 25,000, and Africa at 23,000.
